PTI on song after SC landmark verdict on Punjab elections   LAHORE  – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday started their celebrations from Liberty Chowk Lahore after the Supreme Court of Pakistan announced the election date in Punjab election case. Large swathes of PTI supporters flocked the Liberty Chowk to celebrate their "victory". Elections are scheduled to be held in Punjab on May 14. PTI chief Imran Khan said, "“Today we are celebrating the Supreme Court’s important decision. Unfortunately doctrine of necessity has completely destroyed our country in the past”. The SC decision was warmly welcomed by PTI while government’s cabinet immediately rejected the decision claiming it to be non-actionable. Three-member bench headed by CJP Bandile  announces verdict, directs federal govt to issue funds for polls.   “The impugned order dated 22.03.2023 made by the Election Commission of Pakistan is declared to be unconstitutional, without lawful authority or jurisdiction, void ab-initio, of no legal effect and is hereby quashed,” the ruling said. “Neither the Constitution nor the law empowers the Commission to extend the date of elections beyond the 90 days period as provided in Article 224(2) of the Constitution.” The ECP had on March 22 announced that the elections in Punjab would be held on October 8. The date was earlier set on April 30, in consultation with the president.
