latest news about Imran Khan Chairman Of PTI

  • Lahore-based political analyst Benazir Shah has said that while the Pakistani government has been attempting to arrest Imran Khan over the past few weeks, it now appears “determined” not to leave empty handed.

Shah told Zubair Bin Safdar that the timing of this police operation could not be worse for the government, as it comes six days after a worker from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party died following violent clashes between PTI supporters and the police in Lahore last week.

PTI worker Ali Bilal died after clashes between police and PTI workers near Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence on March 8.

The post-mortem examination of the body revealed that he died due to “massive blunt trauma, skull fracture, intracranial hemorrhaging and testicular injuries” with a total of 26 injury marks on his body.

PTI has held police responsible for his death, and Khan has demanded that a judicial commission be constituted to ascertain the facts surrounding Bilal’s death.

The Punjab interim government, however, refuted the allegations and claimed that Ali Bilal’s death was a result of a “road accident” and not custodial death, as alleged by PTI.

However, Shah was also critical of the former prime minister and said he was “violating the law.”

“Khan insists that he is striving for rule of law in the country, but he has repeatedly flouted the law. He refuses to appear before the courts that are hearing his cases. For one court proceeding he insisted the court mark his attendance while he sat in the car. When the police arrived to arrest him on the court’s orders, his party immediately called workers to resist the police,” she said.
